about
"At the Zoo" is the premier single from Pigimichi's new album, "Old Quarters". Showcasing the band's work in conceptualizing new sounds, tools, and collaborations since their first album in 2017 - At the Zoo is a foggy funkadelic train tunnel into which old and new fans of Pigimichi can be sure to take a ride into the rich world of the band.
The track is honored to hold a space for the groovy work of San Diego premier bassist Omar Lopez - who currently plays and tours with the original Wailers, B-Side players, and Surefire Soul Ensemble. This song also showcases the newest member of Pigimichi - guitarist/bassist Tai Lauti (AKA Cass Gecko), who has been playing shows and recording with the band since 2020. A long time friend, Tai's addition to the band holds true to the groups initial roots; a collaboration which first began at a small town college in 2012.
Melody and lyric were crafted by the front-woman of the group; visual artist, performer, and songwriter Kiki LaPomme. Inspired by long traffic hours, messy parks, and personal narratives - Kiki's melodies, harmonies, and conceptual songwriting mold together with the DX7-synth-heavy production and grooves arranged by Jonny Stallings Cárdenas. This is all backed by the quintessentially dynamic energy, tight rhythms, and explosive experimentation of drummer and visual artist Steven Stallings Cárdenas.
We are thrilled to debut this work of love to the music community and hope it enriches the audio atmosphere of this season.
Please enjoy the creative artistry of local SLC musician and Claymation mastermind VHS Vic (The Choe Show) in his music video collaboration with the group.
Special thanks to legendary DJ and producer King Britt for his timeless guidance, support, and input on the shape and sound design of this track.
Final sparkles, echoes, and deep resonance crafted by the fine mixing and mastering of David Aguila.
lyrics
she walks all day
the cars turn away, but deeper does the
sound of wet emeralds call
"shine with us please"
the shoes are all green
the carpet at the zoo
is softer than my fingers
through whipping cream
i do not trust my living dreams
eyes of, eyes of bright emeralds
cutting through leaves
(chorus)
i reach into my pocket
give her a ticket to my favorite place
it slips between her fingers
she walks away, maybe a different day
oooh ooooh ooooh
i drove all day
the man turned away, but deeper did the sound of
wet emeralds call,
"shine with us please"
it's soft to touch but have you seen?
nah nah nah nah nah
(radio: "it's the summer heat wave 50k give away.
come inside to play or scan the code
to learn more")
(chorus 2x)
i reach into my pocket
give her a ticket to my favorite place.
it slips between her fingers
she walks away, maybe a different day
oooh ooooh ooooh
(outro = indecipherable humming and singing)

Formed in the rural badlands of San Pete Utah, Pigimichi's winding narratives move through synthetic dance grooves, riding on top of subtle tones of sci-fi and jazz.
